💥New Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Filing - Diamond Comic Distributors Inc.💥
Were nerds were too busy YOLO'ing in the stock market to buy comic books?
On January 14, 2025, Diamond Comic Distributors Inc. and three affiliates (collectively, the “debtors”) filed chapter 11 cases in the District of Maryland (Judge Rice).
Push up those glasses and take a big huff from that inhaler because we’re entering nerd territory here.
As their name implies, the debtors are a distributor of comics, toys, games, and other pop culture related paraphernalia. This might come as a shock for all our Gen Z readers, but before Disney Inc. ($DIS) made Marvel mainstream on the big screen, people used to actually read — yes, read — comic books about The Avengers. These guys, behind the scenes, were there to power your latest rendezvous with your fave supes.
The main debtor, Diamond Comic Distributors (“DCD”) has four operating divisions:
📍Alliance Game Distributors (“Alliance”) — Alliance is a hobby game distributor. For our less initiated readers who aren’t familiar with “hobby games,” you might recall that the kids in Stranger Things were playing a board game at the start of the series; that game was Dungeons & Dragons. It’s a hobby game where you role play as a fictional fantasy character like a dwarf barbarian or a half-orc warlock. And then there’s also Warhammer 40k, a game where you collect mini action figures that you paint and put on a board to fight against other people’s mini action figures. The game sets place in a dystopian, grim future that involves space travel, alien species, superhuman soldiers, and intergalactic wars. Boys will be boys.
